Jobs are like a placeholder for Tasks. In the Job you create Triggers and set the Tasks you want to run in order.

Tasks perform the actual work within a Job. It could be an Execute Task, SQL Task or FTP Task. Each Task has output; normal and error, so you can debug execution and notify you.

Triggers are fundamental parts of a Job. A Job can have one or more Triggers. Triggers start the Job, either base on time or an event in the system - like a file has been created.

In Connections we centralize information regarding connecting through various protocols (FTP,SQL,Cloud services etc). The idea is that you create a Connection once and then you are able to use it in many Tasks. If you need to change a password for example you change it only once - in one place.

Credentials are similar to Connections but store login information for Windows access. Whenever you want to run a specific Task with certain elevated rights you select an existing Credential. Same rules apply, if you need to change password for example you only change it once - in one place.

Variables are a way to create dynamic functions and to pass information between Tasks. For example, if a file is created through the file Trigger, Variables can be used to tell which file was created and the path to it. These kind of Variables can be placed in any field in VisualCron and will be resolved in runtime.

Conditions control the flow in a Job and between the Tasks. Through Conditions you can prevent a Job or Task from being run or skip to another Task because a certain condition is not met, like a file is missing or a Variable has a certain value.

Time exceptions prevents a Job from running because a certain day, hour or second is occuring. This is commonly used to prevent a Job from running on US holidays for example.

Notifications are like Tasks but global. It means that you design a Notification once and then will be able to re-use it in various places. This could be useful if you for example want to send out an email whenever a Job or Task is complete.
