I have created two tickets and have not received any answer, so I will try here.
I am having a hard time justifying the renewal price for VC, if I don't renew will VC stop functioning at end of term or will I simply not be eligible for support or updates?

I think that depends on whether you first bought your license before SMA decided VisualCron's competitors needed some help and switched to the subscription model. If you have an old-style license, you're supposed to be able to keep using any major version released while your maintenance was active, but don't get upgrades or support. If you didn't start until after the subscription model started, your jobs will keep running but the client won't work.

I may have that wrong; it's based on something I think I remember reading quite some time ago.
