After we renew licenses, do we have to take any action on the server to ensure the license does not expire? Or, does the license continue with no further action?

It depends on how you have renewed. If you have renewed from the My licenses page you select which one to renew. If you have not done that you need to apply the maintenance codes on the actual licenses. You do this on the My licenses page.
