The RSS trigger seems to retrieve the same articles - is there a way to tell it what to pull or not?

You can use the VisualCron result Variables to log and see what it pulled. So I recommend using a File write Task where you use these Variables. This way you can track this.

About what to pull you have the Conditions in the Trigger for this.
