One feature that would be very useful to me would be the ability to direct the output of an SQL task to a file. As I do alot of reporting, being to automate this would be huge for me.

This could also include a few basic options such as the ability to:
- specify the type of line break (windows, unix, mac)
- specify the field separator (comma, tab, semicolon, pipe, colon, etc)
- specify the text qualifier (single quote, double quotes, none)
- choose to include/exclude field names

Any update on the progress of this feature request? Is it being considered? Any ETA? Thanks.

We need some time to think of the best implementation. Currently, we have one idea:

* in the sql task we add a tab called Output
* in the tab you can control how the output should be like you described below
* you still have to use a file notification to write the file. This is to be as generic as possible. Some, might want to use an email notification instead.

Does this sound OK?

I think that would be great!

I'm a little hesitant about using the standard file notification for this though. Using file/email output limits the query results to the globally defined output character limit. Queries can return very large sets of output and I'm not so sure I want to remove the output limit globally just to run a query.

Other than that concern, I think this would be great!

When when when??? gimme gimme gimme! 🙂

Check out the latest beta 4.9.9 here  which contains the output settings. Currently, output is just stored in output. If you want to redirect it elsewhere you have to use whatever Task you like. File, Email etc.
