We are running v5.6.9 on 14 Windows servers v5.2 R2.
Whenever we double-click on the client icon, it can take up to 2 minutes for the client to open, and over a minute of that before the splash screen appears. The hour-glass goes away after a few seconds, leaving the user thinking that they haven't clicked it properly, so they often double click it several times, and eventually get several clients opened.
Monitoring the task monitor shows the executable memory footprint growing steadily while it is opening.

What would cause this and is there anything that can be done to make it open quicker?

Is the CPU working hard? If not, is is probably related to something else - like disk access speed.

Have you installed VisualCron locally or on a SAN?

I thought I'd butt into this since we experienced a similar problem.
Question: Are you running the VisualCron client in the same box as the VisualCron service?
If so, try running the client off of a desktop and connecting to the service via 'manage servers' pull down..then connect.
When we did that, it solved the problem.
Basically, running the client and the server on the same box causes the client to gobble up alot of real memory.

Our desktops are running Windows 7 professional.
The server running the VisualCron service is running Windows Server 2003 R2 with service pack 2.

Hi,

The CPU's are almost idle, and the disks are not being hammered. It is not on a SAN, the disks are SAS.

To answer Trevinom, we are running the client on the same server as the service. I will try setting up a client on my PC to access the servers from and see what difference it makes.

Could you try to replace the attached configuration file (extract from the zip) and see if it makes any difference.

Yes that made a huge difference. I tested on a server that was taking 150 seconds to bring up the splash screen, and it now takes 2 seconds.
Is this file OK to roll out to all of our servers or is it going to cause issues ?

It is safe to use. The change is the following:

We have a digital certificate (from Globalsign) which we sign all our exe's with. For some reason, the validation of this certificate is slow on this server. What we have done is to disabled validation check for this particular exe. This does not affect you in anyway.

If you, for any reason, would like to validate our files you can always right click on an executable and check the digital signature.

I stumbled across this post from a few months ago.

Do you have a "magic" configuration file for 6.1.8 that I might try, in order to speed up the loading of the UI?

That helped, startup is around 40% faster. Still takes 10 seconds but I'll take what I can get.
