I just upgraded from version 4.9.x to 5.1.0

I had not yet used the SFTP/SSH option, but I do have a possible need for it. I saw in version 4.9.x that when I went to create a connection, I had the option for Public Key, although it was always greyed out for me. Now that i've upgraded to 5.1.0, I do not even have the tab for Public Key available to me. 😕 Did this feature get dropped? I cannot find any reference to it on the ChangeLog.

I need to connect to an SFTP server using SSH v2 and am required to use the Private Key as my password. Its in the standard .ppk format.

You have a Certificate tab in the Connection. You need to import the Certificate and select it in the Connection.

That is for certificates. I am talking about Public/Private Keys. .pub and .ppk extensions.

Yes, the public key is stored in the X509 certificate. Instead of working with files you import the certificate which contains the public key. When selecting that certificate it will extract and use the public key in it.

Unrelated to the problem, but looking through the Certificate area, I noticed a typo when I went to cancel. It says "quite" instead of "quit" on the Yes/no popup.

So if I already have exchanged public keys with the SFTP server, How do I integrate the .ppk private key file for use in VisualCron?

In Putty (PSFTP), I can tell the SSH2 connection to use the .ppk file as the authentication method while also providing a username. This works.

I just created a certificate within VC, but I still do not believe this is the right method. Can I not use existing Public/Private keys? I would hate to have to regenerate/exchange keys with the company i'm working with. It appeared the previous version had the option, it just wasn't enabled.

Maybe the file filter is not set correct. What happens if you:

1. create an empty dummy file with the same name as the public key but ends with .cer
2. rename the extension of the public key to .key - place this file in the same folder as 1.
3. choose import
4. select the .cer-file

Could you send that public key to support@visualcron.com and we will investigate the problem.

I cannot send the actual .pub and .ppk files to you as they are sensitive, but I can generate new ones and send those in a zip file to you for eval.

For your information, All i used was PuttyGen (freeware) to create an RSA/1024 public/private Key pair. This results in filename.pub (public) and filename.ppk (private)

I connect to the SSH server using a Username and password the first time (their requirements). I uploaded the filename.pub to the SSH server and it was accepted so i can now use a private key locally. Now I use PSFTP and reference the filename.ppk file as my authentication method along with a Username. (no password needed now).

Certificates I understand, as I have HTTPS servers that I can download/upload files to and they required Digitally Signed Certs, but this is a different game.

Thoughts? I can always send .pub and .ppk files to you, if still required.

For all those that want to see what I'm using, I've attached screenshots in zip format. I dont have a way to host them directly/quickly.

Yes, it has taken some longer time than expected to release this. But the main idea is that we will release a version where we revert back to original functionality. We are working on this right now.
