I am currently running version 5.4.7, and by the looks of your website 5.4.9 is live.
When I try and update, I get the message: "You are probably using a testversion, no newer official version is available"

Yes, we did get that report from another user (but could not reproduce this ourselves). We have just not had time to investigate the reason why yet. We will check this later when we have time.

could it be anything to do with the fact that I installed the trial version, then added a licence once purchased?

No, it may be a caching problem at our server or some parsing problem of the incoming list of versions.
