For an unknown reason we've suddenly not be able to log in using AD credentials from a remote system to our VisualCron server -- the error displayed on the client side is "Login failed, reason: Unhandled AD error ocurred. Please view server log file."

On the server log we see "Logon error for AD user: '<user>' - unhandled AD error: The server is not operational."

No issues when accessing by logging onto the system running the server, itself, (as in at the console) and no issues when accessing from remote using the client with an internal VC account -- only a client using an AD account has issues.

Nothing suspect in the system or application logs on either side.

Tried the old Windows "update everything and reboot" trick.

Server is 6.0.3, Build 23700 2011-10-20
Client is the same.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

What AD domain name do you use?

Found it! Looks like one of our DCs went away -- I just needed to update the "AD Server" field in the Users/Logon setting.

Does this field need to be an explicity listed server, or can the FQDN suffice (without the server name)?

Worked find! Just need to list the domain in that field and we're good. Solved!
