I have just upgraded my Visualcron server/client from 5.6.9 to 6.0.4,
but now all jobs/task are about 10 times slower than before. (Also after a reboot, OS: WinXP SP3)

Any suggestions about this trouble?

Thanks a lot,
Martin

Do you have Tasks running very frequently?

What about % cpu usage of VisualCron?

Thanks for your quick reply!

The CPU usage of VisualcronService is about max 20%, and there are a lot of jobs.
I have tested the new 6.0.4 on a 2nd server PC, which i use as backup server and to test upgrades.
On the main server (Visualcron 5.6.9, same hardware and OS, Intel Quad Core), the CPU usage of VisualcronService is aprox. the same, but the average CPU load is higher due the faster Visualcron server 5.6.9.

Do you have extended debugging on or off in server settings->Log

The extended debugging is off.

Try to turn off database logging to see if that makes a difference. In server settings->log->database logging

So, what Task types are slower?

Any task type, but also the triggers.

For example a simple "folder create"-Task take more than a minute!!

Also the first task in a job will be executed after many seconds after the triggering....

Strange, most comments about the new version is that it is faster than the old.

What could be the culprit if you launch many at once is the database logging which do a lot of writing to file. But in your case it is something else.

I would turn the server in "off" mode. Let all jobs complete (and you should wait until cpu is down). Then run a single job - do you have any delays then?

How often do you start jobs?

If i run a single task while the server is off, then it's very fast.

>>How often do you start jobs?
The fastes jobs are triggered randomly (about 1 Minutes), other are file triggered with higher intervalls.

I think you need to find what Job causes the server to be slow. Then we can give you more information.

Hi,

now, after the previous test with the server in off-mode, the execution time of all jobs are ok!!
Was the server off-on cycle a solution?
I have to try also again a reboot. I keep you informed....

I think it was a specific Job that was running at that time that caused the problem.

Hi,

i have found also a problem with the "Archive compress"-Task (Archive type: ZIP): The name of files with a long name will be saved inside the archives without the first character.

Example: 46472234_2011-12-01T11-02-32.csv will be compressed as 6472234_2011-12-01T11-02-32.csv

Could not reproduce this. Could you make a small sample which you can send here:

1. a file located in c:/ root
2. archive located in same root

Create this job and export it and send to us. Make sure you can reproduce it before sending. Also, please send the file you are trying to compress.

The problem is a blank space that you have in front of the folder path in the content dialog. Remove that blank space. That caused our component to remove the first character.

Hi,

i have found a possible cause of the problem after many tests:

1.The problem is already present also after a new, clean installation of WinXP SP3 and Visualcron 6.0.5

2.The problem with the speed of the server appear only if the client run on the server machine. When i close the client, then the Visualcron-server speed up magically!!..;)

I am not sure what you say:

1. you verified and tested this after removing the blank space?
2. about speed. Yes, if you run the client on the same machine the server is affected by client usage. Not much, but it will. We recommend that you connect remotely from your desktop to the server.

Hi,

1. We have verified this after a new, clean installation of WinXP SP3 and Visualcron 6.0.5.
What a blank space do you mean?

2. Yes, i know that the client on the same machine the server is affected by client usage. But we compare this always with our first machine (the same hardware, same OS same jobs, etc..), where we use VC5.6.9, and we see very big difference between both machines.

1. The problem might be that this thread is mixed with different reports. I am talking about post #15 in this thread.
2. what exactly is slower?
