I am attempting to setup an e-mail trigger, however I keep receiving the following message when I try to connect to my e-mail using POP: "An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host." When I try to connect to my e-mail via IMAP, I am receiving this message: "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it." I assume both of these messages mean that my firewall is preventing the connection. Can anyone help?

Yes, you can also verify this by doing a telnet to port 143 or 110. If success you should get a blank screen.

I received an error when I tried using telnet with port 143, but I received a blank screen with port 110. I updated the connection to POP with port 110 and when I try to activate the trigger now, I receive the following error: "A socket operation failed because the destination host was down." I know the host isn't down because I am connected to its desktop. Is there a service that needs to be started? Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Thank you.

I think you should receive more than a blank screen. Normally you should get a plain text reply from the POP server. I think you need to verify with email server administrator that port 110 is used and you are able to access it from your computer.

I have been able to get to the point where I am connecting to my mailbox, however I now receive the error: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." Can you help?

If it helps, we are currently running VisualCron version 5.3.1.33574. Is the "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error a bug that is fixed in a later version? Is there a workaround for this version? Please let me know. Thank you.

A lot of fixes have extended support for the POP3 and IMAP protocols have been made in later version. I suggest you try it out on a new machine (you have 45 days of trial).

I have downloaded the latest version of VisualCron and have setup the test job and a trigger. When I click the Test Job button, it works. However, it does not appear to be monitoring the mailbox. The job, task, and trigger are all active. I have setup the polling interval for the trigger to be 30 seconds. I have tried different connections using the POP3 and IMAP4 options, as well as having the trigger search the Default Folder or a different folder. I don't see any errors pop up or any in the job and task logs. Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Thank you.

Let me clarify. The test job that I setup will not run even if I send a new e-mail to trigger it. It only runs when I click the Test Job button within the job. Thank you.

Test Job does not test the Trigger as you start the Job manually when pressing Test Job. If the Trigger is working it should start the Job (if a new email has arrived).

If you do not get any errors when activating the Trigger I guess no new mail has arrived since the Trigger was started?

I understand that Test Job does not necessarily test the trigger itself. Does Test Job still cause VisualCron to connect to the mailbox to look for e-mails that match the condition I set, though?

While I am no longer receiving any errors, the trigger does not appear to be working. New e-mails are arriving that match the condition I set, but the trigger is not starting the job. The job's statistics show that it has never been run.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry for the late response. We thought this post was answered fully.

No, it does not. Test Job just starts the Job right away.

This does not make sense. Are you still having these kind of problems?
