hi,

Does visual cron need to be configured to use across a hardware firewall or proxy server or vice versa?

You cannot overcome firewalls by a setting in VisualCron, you need to configure firewalls for that (open port 16444).

Proxy settings needs to be defined in Connections that are using them. Also you have Proxy settings in Server tab->Server settings->Proxy.
