Hi henrik

i am at a customer helping them to configure VC but we were having a bit of an issue with the popup task.

we have some individual AD users defined in VC who have the VC client installed on their desktops but then we select the user as the Popup target, the popup doesnt appear. the Popup itself will only appear if the VC Admin is selected.

Is there something we need to enable to allow individual users to be targetted with the popup task?

cheers

Andy

Hi Henrik

Yes, they are defined in the Permissions windows and are also defined as being in the Administrators group....

EDIT: we are using VC 6.1.8

Hi Henrik

Also discovered another confusing issue - we tried to include a vc USERVAR in the Popup title and the Popup message box but it is complaining Object reference not set to an instance of an object. The Uservar simply holds the value of a {DATEFORMAT(yyyyMMdd)} which is displaying correctly in the Variable itself.

If we simply use {DATEFORMAT(yyyyMMdd)} on its own in the Popup Title and/or the Popup message it works fine, but it fails with {USERVAR(iso_date)}. In all cases it fails if we use a combination of text and dateformat. (e.g. 'Message date : {DATEFORMAT(yyyyMMdd)}

It seems that if there is a combination of text and system variables or user variables causes a problem, whereas if we just use a system variable on its own it works fine

Cheers

I don't currently see how. I think I need some screenshots of Groups, Users in the group.

About the dateformat Variable in Variable we could not reproduce that either. Maybe it is something with the version. Will test more with AD now.

I could not reproduce the AD problem either. The Task is not caring about if it is AD user or not. The user just have to be listed in the User list in permissions window.

Hi Henrik

Apologies I didn't reply last week, I was actually over working with a customer and time was quite tight.

I managed to grab some screenshots of the issue with Popups and imbedded variables, and also the issue with the Users not seeing the popups displayed, only VC Administrators, even though they belong to the same 'Administrator' group.

If you need any more details then let me know

Cheers

Just for the sake of asking.... when is that 'iso_date' variable created? Is it a global variable that you update every day via another job/task? Is it a variable created as part of a 'Set Variable' task in this job? Is it a job-specific variable and you need to use this syntax instead?
{JOB(Active,Variable,iso_date)}

In my tests it is a global User Variable that was created once and has not been updated since. We would love to add more logging to see why you cannot bring up the AD users - it is like the users are not there at all (because we really list all with no filter). The problem is that we are in the middle of 7.0.0. and this means that you would have to test a beta version on that server. Please let me know if this is possible or if you can wait.

Hi Brian and Henrik :-)

Yes Brian, the date variable is a Global User variable with the Date assigned to it in the Variables dialogue via {DATEFORMAT(yyyyMMdd)}.

Henrik, it isn't really critical just now - I was actually giving the techies at the customer an overview of VC and how we have implemented it there and one of them tried to add the users and play with the Popup as they see it as being particularly useful to them.

I don't think it would be acceptable to install Version 7.0 as they have 6.1.8 installed on a few servers and clients on desktops.

That said, do you have an idea of when 7.0 will be made available? We have scheduled an upgrade of 6.1.8 to 6.2.2 but if version 7 will be out soon we should probably hold off for that as we haven't quite gone live with it yet. When we do it will be more difficult to plan an upgrade.

Cheers

Andy
