I have VC 4.8.4 installed on PC/Windows XP and all works fine. I downloaded the VC5 upgrade installer and ran it. The installation process starts but then just dies and VC4 is not upgraded. I have downloaded the installer twice. Anyone have a similar experience, and a suggestion on how to fix the problem?

Please make sure that you have installed all updates that exist in Windows update.

Thanks for your response Henrik. My Windows update is right up to date. Running the VC5 upgrade starts as I described before and the result is the same. The initialization process starts and then dies after a few seconds with no upgrade. Anything else I can try?

It might be something with your tempfolder. Could you:

1. post here, the path to your temp folder. Open a command window and write: echo %tmp%
2. Delete all files in the temp folder
3. try installing again
