Is "Consider timeout as error" supposed to be an option at the task level? It is shown that way in the Help, but in the UI I only see it at the job level.

Also, is there any way (maybe a variable) to capture what sort of an error was detected, whether it be a timeout, a non-zero exit code, or an unhandled exception?

In some versions later the "On error" tab was created in the Task designer. In there you can configure that timeout should be considered as an error or not.
