Hi Support

I have been looking at a method of sending notifications across a network directly from VC and came across a well established service called 'Growl' which originated on Mac OSX but is now ported to Windows.

It can already be called from VC via scripts but it would be a nice option to have native support :-)

More info here : http://www.growlforwindows.com/gfw/developers.aspx

Hi Henrik

I was just wondering whether you had any thoughts about native Growl support for notifications within VC? It works really well just calling the notifier as an execute command, but would be really neat to have it built in for notifications. Can even run notifies on iPhone and Android. :-)

Looked quickly again. Maybe I am misunderstanding but this Growl/Snarl is no central network right? I thought it was a central network where you could use any client.

Instead, when looking at growl I see that it can notify on the local computer if Growl is installed.

I also saw Prowl which is similar to iPhone. It had a central API but is separate and just for iPhone.

So, this network does not, at first glance, look interesting. But maybe I am misunderstanding.

What would be best if there was something like "Whatsapp" on iPhone and Android with an open API.

Hi Henrik

Growl is almost like peer-2-peer where anybody who has Growl installed can route 'Growls' to other users, whether on an internal LAN, or over a WAN. Individual users can also 'Subscribe' to notifications from other workstations. Notifications can also be forwarded to Email, iPhone or Windows phone.

I was just thinking of having the ability to pass notifications to different workstations, particularly on a local LAN (but Mobile would be good as well). From what I can see, "Whatsapp" is good for smart phones, but there is no MS Windows client?

Hope that helps?

Cheers

Hi,

take a look at latest beta 6.1.5. We have partnered with computer to device service XendApp  and implemented a XendApp Task for sending to any device.

Hi Henrik

Looks good - but does it mean customers have to register an account with Xendapp and do messages have to route through their servers?

Cheers

Yes, but connection itself is encrypted and you can optionally encrypt message.
