While creating some jobs for a task, I realized this would useful. I was able to set the desired user to autologin, but the only way to trigger it via VC was to use the reboot task. This worked, but wasn't as elegant as it could have been.

What exactly do you want to accomplish. There is the Logon/Unlock Task which you can use.

The logoff option has a remote or local choice. I couldn't get the logon to work on a server, so I wondered if it was because it didn't have the remote option.

Ok, I see. To Logon you need access to the local CredentialProvider. This can only be done locally.
