Hello,

we upgraded two days ago from 7.1.6 to 7.1.8. Otherwise everything went well but all FTP tasks download paths resetted to /.

FTP tasks download paths resetted again to / after updating from 7.1.8 to 7.2.1.
How safe is it to restore settings from backup, I would not like to end in a situation where all the other tasks get corrupted?

Was the backup old or very recent (made with 7.1.8)?

Hi!
Backup was done with 7.1.8 just minutes before update was installed.

You mean 7.1.6. We will do some tests with latest version but I do not think this is a problem anymore because then we would have more feedback on latest version.

Yes and no. FTP paths were lost twice, server update from 7.1.6 -> 7.1.8 and then again 7.1.8 -> 7.2.1.

If you have the backup file, Job and Task name then please send it to support@visualcron.com and we will try to reproduce it.

I confirmed this also, but it's with older versions as noted.

I installed 7.1.6 on my system, added a fake connection for FTP so I had one to use... And added a simple FTP Download task, and then updated to 7.1.9 (i didn't have 7.1.8 downloaded). the Remote file Filter path reverted to / as the OP said.

Remote folder I typed this:
/folder/to/check/in
Upgraded to 7.1.9 and the 'remote folder' is now just a /

I changed the path back to /folder/to/check/in while using 7.1.9 and upgraded to 7.2.1 afterwards, but the path was still correct this time. Maybe it's a glitch in earlier versions (7.1.8) going to 7.2.1, but I've had no issues at all going from previous versions (7.1.6) straight to 7.2.1, the path remains.

EDIT: See my next post. I know why upgrading from 7.1.6 straight to 7.2.1 worked, i didn't re-create the task after going 'back' to version 7.1.6.

I made a VM and started testing version to version upgrades starting at 7.1.3 and stepping through different versions, reverting to my snapshot between each upgrade. What i found is this... And it's still broken even from 7.2.1 to 7.5.0 (latest beta).

I can reproduce this on every version starting with 7.1.3 (didn't go back any further).

Fresh new FTP Task created for each version i started with (VM Snapshot was made at this point), then upgraded or downgraded to the listed versions, and it always gets reset to / no matter what. I tried WAY more than what's listed, but this is the list i did twice just to be sure. 7.5.0 used for my testing is build 14795 built today, 10-20-2014.

7.1.3 --> 7.1.4 (remote file filter path was reset)
7.1.3 --> 7.1.5 (remote file filter path was reset)
7.1.3 --> 7.1.6 (remote file filter path was reset)
7.1.3 --> 7.2.1 (remote file filter path was reset)
7.1.4 --> 7.1.8 (remote file filter path was reset)
7.2.1 --> 7.1.8 (remote file filter path was reset)
7.2.1 --> 7.1.9 (remote file filter path was reset)
7.2.1 --> 7.5.0 (remote file filter path was reset)

However, if we create a new task like above, upgrade or downgrade to any version... the path does get reset to a / that first time. But after the upgrade/downgrade if we adjust the download path now, and upgrade or downgrade to any other version, it'll now keep the path information that was set.

So, to reproduce. Pick your versions, it won't matter... but for my test I did at least 8 different combinations. This is the one i'll document:

1. New FTP Download Task Created on version 7.1.8, folder path set to /Folder718
2. Upgrade 7.1.8 to 7.1.9, folder path was reset to /
3. Fix folder path on existing ftp download task using version 7.1.9 and set path to /Folder719
4. Upgrade 7.1.9 to 7.2.1, folder path is NOT reset to /, everything worked as it should and the path is still /Folder719

Now, I could've gone from 7.1.9 to 7.1.3, 7.1.9 to 7.5.0, 7.1.9 to 7.2.1, etc.... and it would've all been fine at this point.

If I were to delete that task (or really, just the download 'ftp command' inside the task with the pathing in it) and re-create it, ANY version i upgrade/downgrade to at that point will be broken and reset back to / again.

Hopefully that makes sense. New Task/info, upgrade/downgrade resets path to /. If it's already been through one upgrade at some point, it's good. :)

So, the concern would be any FTP tasks that you've added since the last time you upgraded. Older tasks won't get reset, just ones that haven't been through an upgrade haha.

Really wish i had noticed this before ALL that testing. haha.

So what we actually have going on here is a non-committal of the Folder paths when you initially create the FTP download tasks.

It has NOTHING to do with the upgrade at all. The tasks you had revert to a / must have been created after the last restart of the VisualCron service. It's simply the first time you restart the service, it gets set back to a /

So, Create your tasks... set your pathing, and then restart the VisualCron service. They'll be reset. Go adjust them AFTER resetting the service, and they'll be saved permanently. Restart the service all you like. Something about that initial creation of the download/upload tasks isn't saving the pathing information.

Hello,
that makes sense as while updating the service will be restarted.
As long there is no fix, I'll just restart service and fix paths after. Annoying, but it is good to know how it is.

Thanks for the feedback.

This should have been fixed in 7.5.0 beta: http://www.visualcron.co....aspx?g=posts&t=4540

Just one note: if you have created FTP tasks recently and not restarted the service, there is a risk of resetting the custom path once again while installing 7.5.0 beta. So better to write down the paths, then restart service and set paths back to correct ones. Then install the 7.5.0. :-)

Totally agree. The problem isn't with the 'new' version, it's with the current/old version stopping services before the upgrade.

Hi,

Today I upgraded my 6.2.2 server to 7.5.0 and I had the same issue. All the FTP download paths where I had a '/' in 6.2.2 are empty in 7.5.0.
Also the file masks are all '*' in 7.5.0, but in 6.2.2. I have real filenames.

I was happy that I had a snapshot of my server so I could go back in a few minutes.
Than I tried to import the 6.2.2 settings into a fresh 7.5.0 server and I received the message: Error ocurred when importing settings, err: There is an error in XML document (1,2).

How can I upgrade my server keeping the FTP task setting?

Regards,
Erik

Is it possible that that you can email your settings and let us know the Job and Task name?

I installed a fresh 6.2.2 server and imported the settings I have from my production 6.2.2 server.
I upgraded the server to 7.5.1 (released today) and I can see that my filemasks are ok now.
The download path, where to download the files from, is still an empty textbox when the 6.2.2 setting is '\'.
So it's not completely fixed.

I don't think the 'new' version fixes the old version's problem. When you built a new 6.2.2 server and imported the settings... everything looked ok, i assume. Did you restart the service on the new 6.2.2 server after doing the import to see if the settings remained, prior to upgrading to 7.5.x? I think the problem lies in the old version not fully saving the details until a service restart is performed and they're re-added.

I think the problem is related to that we only did fixes for forward slashes. We will release 7.5.2 beta for backward slashes too.
