I'm trying to configure a connection where I'd like to retrieve files from an OpenVMS 8.4 system.
The problem is that VisualCron 8.0.4 build 31973 doesn't even show the files available in the remote folder. While it perfectly works with FileZilla, WinSCP or a simple DOS command. To be honest, it shows objects but doesn't seem to see them as files as you can see in the attachment.
It's a simple FTP (port 21) passive connection with a user/password and a remote folder.

Can you, please, give me some advice on how I should configure it? I've already tried several options in the FTP connector of VisualCron.

Thank you,
Pascal

Is it possible to provide a test account for us? If yes, that would help a lot and send the details to support@visualcron.com

Hi Henrik,

really sorry: we've tried to find a way to open something on our side but it's impossible.
We're here on a realtime system located in a DMZ.
So, if you have the possibility to find an open OpenVMS in your location, it would help. If not, you'll have to blindly direct us in all the tests you'd like to perform.

Please turn on extended debugging in server settings->Log. Then hard code the same settings as you use in FileZilla in the FTP->List files. Run the Job and then send log_serverDATE.txt to support@visualcron.com

Hi Henrik,

I'm a little bit lost: what do you mean with ' Then hard code the same settings as you use in FileZilla in the FTP->List files'?

An alternative that I've used before is to create a WinSCP script to do what you need to do, and just have Visual Cron run that. (Maybe via a batch file.)

Hi,

we need the log file (after turning that debugging on) to see if we can solve this without connecting to it.

I've got it in a simple cmd file. I suppose it will also do the trick for you...

Unfortunately, I don't see anything relevant in the log. Even in extended...
10/05/2016 15:56:50 Debug Next execution (2) for Job '015501 bis FTP transfer TIC => Elia' is: 0:00:00
10/05/2016 15:56:50 Debug SendJobStats->Ended (10/05/2016 15:56:49)
10/05/2016 15:56:50 Info Job completed (Success)->'015501 bis FTP transfer TIC => Elia'

Unfortunately the log did not provide enough information. In order to support that specific server we need some kind of test account so we can verify what is happening.

Sorry, it's impossible.
Our system is too critical and inaccessible from outside.
So I'll try to sort this out with another mean. As I told you, it works with a batch file.

Eventually, I found a way to have it running: replacing FTP by sFTP... Silly isn't it...
I've got know a last small issue: a file on an OpenVMS machine contains a version number at the tail of its name.
It's of course impossible to use this kind of file on a Windows machine. Usually, this version is not copied during the transfer. But in this case, it is.
I've already tried several encoding options but no one works so far.
To let you understand, this is an example:

In OpenVMS: EMS_2016_05.TXT;13 (it's a simple TXT file in fact)
In Windows: it's not a TXT file but a TXT;13 file (so not readable)

I am not sure I understand the problem;
1. do you want the file to be downloaded or not?
2. is the problem onnly reading the file? Then try to send as ascii in settings and not binary

The problem is described in this link: https://winscp.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14962
And I've already tried both binary and ascii without success.
My objective is to download a file readable on a Windows system. So with the extension .TXT and not .TXT;13

But you said you are using SFTP now but the link points to SCP?

Hi People,
i have the same problem:
i can perfectly upload to open vms alpha server,
i cannot download.
connection explorer connects, gets even some sort of directory,
with loads of non-existent entries, and afterwards the real entries.
but downloading always gives failure notice.

visualcron_openvms.png

total commander works fine in both directions. so there must be a solution.
Thanks!

Please turn on extended debugging in Server settings. Then try download Task. After that zip and send the file log_serverDATE.txt to support@visualcron.com
