Hi - sorry if this has been posted before, but I wasn't able to find anything while searching.

However, I'm trying to determine the arguments for the command in Execute for a file that is over 65K of rows in Excel. So, it will provide the report in .xlsx format or will need to be output to CSV. We use BI Discoverer or Desktop to process the files and this one will be Emailed to certain recipients.

I haven't found anything in our jobs currently that specifies this so this may be a first. Please advise if there are possibilities and I will provide more information as necessary. Thx!

Possibly, and sorry for being vague. Typically we send out Excel files that run out of BI or Oracle. However, this particular report is over the 65K rows as limited by the 2003 version. Excel 2007 handles over 65K rows, but is usually according to user input. However, I don't know if VC handles .xlsx format or if .csv is my only option. And in either case, what would the argument syntax look like. Below are a couple of examples of other arguments we use:

This is sent to a folder on the network (fictitious names of course):
/report reportname /destype file /desformat xls /desname \\networkfoldername\ /filename Customfilename /nodate true /params Branch 040 /dept sales

This one is sent via Email:
/report reportname /email robin_rascon@____.com /filename Customfilename /nodate true /params Branch 040 /dept sales

I can't get either one to work when exporting the BI report or it limits the rows to 65K. The report has to be all one sheet, or else we would break up the report somehow.

What do you mean by "I don't know if VC handles .xlsx format or if .csv is my only option"? It is still not totally clear what you want to do.

It seems like you want to call a executable from BI or Oracle. It is more of a question if they support a specific format.

And I apologize if I'm not clear, but I think you answered my question in your remark about it being a question if BI/Oracle supports the format. So, it does support .xlsx but you have to save it as this format from the front end. I was only confirming if the .xlsx (2007) format could be entered in the argument line syntax somehow.

However, since the file is so large and BI/Oracle supports it, we can use a .csv or .txt format in the argument, but I'm not sure how the syntax would read using the examples above that I posted. Or would it be something completely different?

The syntax depends on the syntax that the BI/Oracle tool supports. It does not depend on VisualCron. I am not sure how file size came into the picture. In the argument I assume you only present a full path to the Excel file or CSV and the argument itself has probably nothing to do with file size.

But the correct usage in VisualCron would be to put the path to the BI/Oracle exe in the command property textbox and the parameters/arguments in the Arguments text box.

Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are trying to do. Perhaps if you knew the exe name, have a documentation that you can point to or even better, know the normal syntax you use when running this in a command window it would help.

You could be right and I'll follow up with some of my coworkers who use this more often. The file size just happens to be how large the file is and management doesn't want it broken up into separate tabs or reports in Excel. So that's my dilemma or else I would be able to run it.

But what you're saying makes sense now. I think it's in BI Desktop that my coworker said she found some syntax methods. I thought she meant in VC. I'll confirm. thx!

I was able to run this using csv in the argument. For some reason didn't work earier in the week. All is good. thx again!
