I would like to create a task to monitor the Windows Event Logs or the Application Log Files directly for a string in the log file and if found kick off a notification email. It looks like I can find this entry in the Event log but how do I get it to only look back from a certain amount of time? I only want to find these events happening today or in the last hour but these 2 Task Types don't give a Date option that I filter on.

Hi Mark,

We do have the Event log trigger, would that be suitable for your purpose? With the trigger - it happens in real-time. Trigger -> Event trigger -> Event log

Thank you that's helpful. I'm trying the Event Log Triggers and am struggling to get the trigger to fire. I've tried configuring the Event log entry variables to a basic log entry and don't see anything triggering. It would be helpful if I could see an example of a Job that was looking for a Windows Event Log entry and triggering when that happened.

Could you show screenshot(s) of how you set up the trigger please? You can send them to support@visualcron.com if you like and just include your text here

I seem to have this mostly working now. The problem was that I was trying to use the Event log entry variable for "Description contains:" to look for text in the message area of the event log. Can you explain how the "Description contains:" part of the Event log entry variables works? Are there wildcards or special formatting needed for the text search to work? Thanks!

Hi Mark,

From the documentation:
"Description contains

The formatted, localized text for the message. This includes associated replacement strings. Enter a text that exists in a part of the description/message."

Is it not working as described?
